Well i had a dissapointing twitch niggled at me when i lift NZ,
and that was that i might miss seeing "I'm Not there"
" An experimental-type biography of Bob Dylan, employing six different actors to embody Bob - including a woman and a black dude."
we'll thanks to the fake dvd trade here in Vietnam a fellow volunterr picked up a copy 3 weeks ago for all of about $1 NZ . But let it sit on the top shelf till tonight when it just feel like the right time to view. (lucy was away with our cook at some buddha feast and a celebration of a dead friends mother . (thats how the cook said it??), and David went to bed early.
It was the right moment to rip open the plastic bag containing the photocopied cover and the DVD-R with I'm not there scrawled on it with permanent marker.
and whew!, it was a good fake not one of those ones filmed from a cinama screen. But complete with english , chinese, vietnamese and yes!, korean "optional" subtitles. From this i reckon Bob Dylan must be pretty big world wide to go to all that trouble ,
ohh i'm not giving much away....
Cate Blanchett is amazing. Sufjan Stevensens and Neil Young are thanked in the credits. umm i has a Citroen DS/ID19 in it. The sound track will be great (i wonder if they'll release it on Vinyl)
well what more can i say, i need to watch it again, and again , and pull out those special edition Bob Dylan Q magazines, his book Tarantula, watch that copy of Pat Garrat and Billy the Kid , and listen to those 25odd vinyl record i have at home in Welly's NZ.
but it has been said
"To enjoy I'm Not There you should be just a little bit Dylan-crazy, fascinated by his talent, ornery personality and enduring cultural influence. - Liam Lacey Globe and Mail
Well the release date in NZ is the 8th of May whooo thats awhile to wait, By the way there a whole bunch of reasearch material/music/biographies/magazines at my house, if anyone wants to get "prepped" before they go see the movie.
